Outcomes Advocacy

Specialist SEN and Disability Advocacy, Mediation and Training

Our clients have said this about us:

"I cannot recommend Steve from Outcomes Advocacy highly enough; I could not have got through the last few years without him.

Having battled with teachers, SENCO’s, CAMHS and other professionals who never seemed to be able to give a straight answer or fill me with any confidence, it was a breath of fresh air to finally have Steve on board.  Obviously the first reaction when I realised I was in safe hands was tears but once I got that out of my system it was full steam ahead.  Steve was very professional, understanding and so knowledgeable.  The amount of information and advice he was able to give me was incredible, he is a genuine expert in his field.  He was always willing to make time to answer any questions, reassure me, explain any specialist language and tell me exactly what I needed to do next.  He took time to go through any paperwork I had and showed me how to pick it to pieces to ensure I got the best for my son.

I am extremely grateful to Steve for all of the work he put in to my case and especially for putting up with the panicked phone calls every time a new letter arrived on my doorstep.  My son is now at the right school with the right provision and is happier than I have ever seen him."

From diagnosis to statement to school, Steve has been there for my son and for us as a family with his infinite knowledge of legislation and process he has guided us every step of the way.

As with any parent faced with the world unknown and confusing processes of special educational needs, I knew we needed help and fast!   Steve was able to calmly set out the facts and options available.  More importantly for me he was able to explain the process so I knew what I needed to do and what it all meant.

Ultimately the advice and guidance given from Steve has allowed us to get the right level support for our son on a daily basis, enabling him to achieve and be the best he can be in an a mainstream school.  We have continued to engage with Steve with every new step, and will continue to do so to get the right help and entitlement for our son.

I cannot recommend the services provided by Steve from Outcomes Advocacy enough, it has replaced the worry and stress with fact and positivity.

I have known Steve for 6 years and over that time he has been instrumental in changing my children's lives. Both of my children have special needs and like so many we have found that the SEN system in state schools is woefully inadequate. Both of my children’s needs were ignored / not recognised and in both instances we were told we would “never get a statement” for them.

I knew I had to do something and that the only way I would ever get the support that they needed was to fight for them and be the instigator of things. With Steve’s support both got their statements (now EHCP’s) and are  in Independent Specialist Schools. (One residential)  The combined cost of these school placements are around £200,000 a year to the LA (plus transport costs).  We could never have funded this. Without his in depth knowledge, advice and support attending the multidisciplinary meetings / meetings with the LA they would never be in these amazing specialist schools and my children would be still floundering and failing in mainstream schools.

Throughout the fight to get their needs recognised, Steve helped me to understand the law and both wrote letters for me and provided guidance for me as to what I needed to put in them. Having him present at meetings made the schools sit up and take note – his knowledge of the law and gentle reminders of their duties under it, really helped to get the assessments and support that they needed. He really knows all the legislation around equality and SEN and he politely and factually made the schools face up to their responsibilites and their duties to our children whom they were failing.

Steve is so knowledgeable and completely honest – he always explained fully the next steps and throughout the process he guided me through the minefield of legislation and duties. He is really experienced and knowledgeable about special needs. He understands the frustrations and difficulties that our children faced and he fully understands how hard it is to be a parent fighting for your child especially when the system so often lets you down.

The journey to getting the Statements was long and at times I started to lose hope. Steve was emotionally supportive and helped me to stay on track and to keep on going. He gave me the belief and strength to carry on fighting.

The initial statements that I received for both children were not fit for purpose – nothing was specified and quantified in terms of provision – they were littered with errors and omissions. With Steve's help – we rewrote these statements and went from them being vague documents to statements that were unequivocally written – that gave no room for questioning and specified exactly what our children needed. (In one case full time 1:1 in mainstream school.)

I would recommend Steve to anyone who needs advice regarding special needs. He is an incredible man who is caring, professional and knowledgeable. He is meticulous about details and has helped me so much – he is able to get to the heart of the matter and knows exactly the right ‘line’ to take.  His calm presence helped me get through many heated meetings and gave me such confidence. With his help we were able to get the Statutory Assessments that the children needed and since then he has supported us with all the annual reviews and paperwork around them. He has helped us with liaising with professionals, transport issues, completing DLA forms, Short Breaks and accessing support in the community. Any aspects around disability and special needs we turn to him as we know he will help us / signpost us to the right team.  Steve is very quick to get back to you when you have a query and has been able to explain, guide and accompany us through each step of the journey that we have had.

Our lives were in complete turmoil – the impact of having children without a diagnosis and unsupported special needs put such a strain on our family. The ‘fallout’ we got from them as they exploded / melted down at home due to not being supported at school, was exhausting. We were at breaking point and have been let down over and over again by schools, social services, medical professionals etc. Steve has been so supportive and his input has really helped us to change our lives. Having both children in the specialist provisions which they need is not only helping them to realise their potential – but has helped us at home too. We feel immense gratitude and can’t thank Steve enough for his help. When everyone else let us down he supported us and without him I dread to think where we would be.

We first found Steve when our son was illegally excluded from school, as a result of his unmet SEN. Steve was a font of knowledge and assisted us in getting our son back into school.

Despite all our efforts to get the school on board we were unable to get our son what he needed and had to go to a Tribunal. Again, Steve was amazing. He was able to calmly talk us through all of our options and forensically unpick our bundle so that we could go to the appeal fully prepared.

We highly recommend Steve and he is our go-to person if ever we need any advice or assistance in the future.
